iiNet Invests in Symantec Brightmail Anti-Spam to
Become Australia’s
First Isp to Offer Free, World-Leading Anti-Spam Protection iiNet
Set To Reduce Current Email Traffic And Storage Costs By Up To 50 Per
Cent
Sydney – November 11, 2004 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq:SYMC), the
global leader in information security, today announced that Internet
Service Provider (ISP) iiNet Limited has selected Symantec Brightmail
Anti-Spam 6.0 to offer new and existing iiNet and Froggy broadband and
dial-up customers an award-winning anti-spam solution, at no extra charge.
iiNet, Australia’s fourth largest ISP -- with operations in New
Zealand through the wholly-owned ihug subsidiary -- has a reputation
for providing innovative and quality Internet services. While other Australian
ISPs charge for premium-level spam protection, iiNet is transforming
the market in Australia by offering the Symantec Brightmail Anti-Spam
solution to customers and subscribers as an ‘all-in’ bundle
at no extra charge. The anti-spam solution is available from November
15, 2004.
“We required a premium anti-spam solution that is highly accurate,
user friendly and is easily available to our customers as part of their
Internet service. We don’t believe that customers should have to
pay for unwanted or unsolicited e-mails. Therefore, iiNet has chosen
to absorb the costs of a premium anti-spam service in order to give our
customers the service they deserve,” said Greg Bader, CTO, iiNet.
The Symantec solution stops spam attacks in real time without compromising
accuracy. “We can reduce email traffic and storage costs by up
to 50 per cent,” Bader added.
Spam has increasingly become one of the most severe threats to enterprises
today, topping viruses as the number one problem plaguing email systems
and administrators. iiNet investigated various spam solutions and found
that Symantec Brightmail offers flexible and powerful spam management
capabilities, that meet enterprise security needs without imposing a
significant administrative burden.
“The team here at Symantec worked with iiNet to build a customised
anti-spam solution that best suited iiNet’s requirements. Symantec
Brightmail Anti-Spam was selected due to our market leadership, low false
positive rating, cost efficiency and return on investment,” said
Andrew Gordon, senior analyst, Symantec Brightmail.
Symantec Brightmail Anti-Spam Version 6.0 is a high performance software
solution that blocks spam at the Internet gateway. Symantec Brightmail
Anti-Spam offers the best accuracy rate available in spam filtering technology,
with an industry leading false positive rate of fewer than one false
positive in every one million messages identified as spam.
Symantec Brightmail Anti-Spam is the most widely used spam solution
for ISP vendors worldwide, holding nine of the top 12 US ISP accounts.
Enterprise customers using the Symantec Brightmail Anti-Spam solution
include General Electric, Microsoft, Cisco Systems, IBM, Deutsche Bank,
and Barclays Bank.
