Symantec Survey Reveals 61.9 Percent of Taiwan Small Businesses Do Not Have the Budgets for Internet Security
AUCKLAND -- 24 February, 2004 -- Symantec, the world leader in Internet security, today announced that over 50 percent of Taiwan small businesses believe that budget limitations and lack of professional expertise are the two major concerns for not deploying Internet security.
According to a survey of 811 Taiwan small businesses conducted by Symantec, 61.9 percent of respondents indicated that an insufficient budget was a major hurdle for deploying Internet security, followed by lack of professional expertise at 45.8 percent and complicated technical skills at 30.5 percent.
"The survey highlights that small businesses in Taiwan need easy to deploy Internet security products at affordable prices to meet their budget constraints," said Vivian Chang, Symantec Consumer Manager, Taiwan.
The survey targeted small businesses in Taiwan with 25 or less staff members and measured their Internet security experience and concerns about protecting their online assets.
Results of the survey also demonstrate that 72 percent of respondents have found that the increasing number of spam emails has greatly lowered the networking efficiency of their businesses. Over 76 percent of respondents have encountered virus attacks and 30 percent were attacked by hackers. Of the respondents, 30 percent were not aware if they have been the victims of hacker intrusions.
"Small businesses in Taiwan are opening themselves up to greater internet security risks by not having the budgets or the expertise to install and manage Internet security protection. Symantec's small business solutions have been designed to address these needs," said Ms Chang.
With flexible purchasing and easy to deploy features, Symantec's small business solutions are designed for businesses with five or ten employees that also need server protection. Different from Symantec's consumer products, Symantec Small Business Solutions provide central management on a single console, which helps facilitate installation, management and policy compliance.
