Symantec Announces Support for New X64 Operating Systems

AUCKLAND -- 26 April, 2005 -- Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC), the global leader in information security, today announced that Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.0 will support Windows XP Professional x64 Edition and Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions, available today.

“Our customers come to us for best-of-breed security solutions,” said Enrique Salem, senior vice president of network and gateway Security at Symantec. “Our antivirus solutions will provide users of Windows XP Professional x64 Edition and Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions with the real-time protection from threats that they demand.”

Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.0 will provide automatic defence and response against spyware, viruses and worms for users of Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions. The scalable centralised management and response capabilities provided by Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition is designed to maximise uptime and minimise costs, while providing customers with the ultimate control and protection for desktop and network servers in both 32- and 64-bit environments. Current Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition customers with valid maintenance agreements will be entitled to upgrade at no incremental cost.

Both Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions allow customers to easily run both 32-bit and 64-bit applications and make the gradual shift to 64-bit computing at their own pace while preserving current investments in 32-bit applications. When running memory intensive applications, customers can also expect substantial performance improvements compared to 32-bit product versions.

“Enterprise customers have told us that they require solutions to help protect against the threat of malicious software while also offering strong management capabilities,” said Brad Goldberg, general manager Windows division at Microsoft Corp. “Solutions such as Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.0 help to provide important protection for enterprises running Windows XP Professional x64 Edition and Windows Server x64 Editions.”
