SYDNEY --NSW - January 25, 2000 - - Symantec Australia is now shipping Norton Internet Security 2000, the first fully integrated, comprehensive personal Internet security and privacy suite. Norton Internet Security 2000 balances ease of use with security to effectively safeguard PC users against the vulnerabilities and dangers of Internet-based computing.
Using a powerful combination of personal firewall and parental control technology, along with the award-winning Norton AntiVirus 2000, Norton Internet Security 2000 protects personal information when users are online by defending against dangerous Internet-borne viruses and malicious hackers, as well as giving parents control over their children's Internet access.

Norton Internet Security 2000 has been engineered for small business and personal computer users alike. Using personal firewall technology, Norton Internet Security provides a barrier between the Internet and the home computer. This firewall operates like a filter: examining inbound and outbound information and blocking all unauthorised transfers to protect against such programs as Back Orifice.
"Cookie" control technology enables users to specify which websites can store cookies on their PCs, thereby preventing unsolicited websites from gathering personal information from the user. Norton Internet Security also blocks out web page clutter such as banner ads, Java script/Visual Basic script and pop-up windows, which can significantly reduce the download times of web pages.
To ensure maximum usability, Norton Internet Security 2000 includes customisable settings to enable users to quickly and easily configure the software to meet their specific needs. Parental control
The parental control component of Norton Internet Security 2000 has been developed in collaboration with parents, teachers and government and industry security organisations. NIS enables parents to ensure their children have a safe Internet experience by automatically blocking inappropriate information sent over the Internet to Web sites. The software suite includes a customisable list of pre-approved URLs to help in proactively establishing an optimal Internet experience for children.
Anti-virus protection
Norton Internet Security 2000 leverages the award-winning technology of Norton AntiVirus, the number one anti-virus product in the industry. This technology detects and repairs new and unknown viruses as well as known viruses at all virus entry points . When users encounter unknown problems, they can send them to the Symantec AntiVirus Research Center (SARC) for analysis. Pricing and availability
Norton Internet Security 2000 is available now at an introductory price of AUD$99. This includes a one-year subscription service that provides program updates and content and virus definitions.
Annual renewals to the Norton Internet Security subscription service are available directly from Symantec and priced at US$19.95 a year.
Current Norton SystemWorks and Norton AntiVirus customers are eligible for a 30% rebate when they purchase Norton Internet Security.
