Protect your family against Internet nasties with
Symantec's Norton Internet Security 2000
The first personal Internet security solution that allows parents to protect children from harmful content on the Internet and safeguards the family PC from hackers and viruses
SYDNEY --NSW - January 25, 2000 - - Increasingly, children are using the Internet for researching school projects, communicating with friends and playing games. However, while the Internet opens the door to a vast amount of interesting information and exciting experiences, it also allows children access to information about sex, violence and racism - information that can be found easily, even accidentally! At last, parents can sleep soundly at night knowing their children are protected while surfing the 'net'.
Symantec has launched Norton Internet Security 2000, an innovative software product that gives parents control over which Internet sites their children can visit and what applications they can use online to protect them from exposure to inappropriate material. Norton Internet Security 2000 also safeguards the family PC against dangerous Internet-borne viruses and computer hackers, to protect personal information stored on the computer.
The parental control component of Norton Internet Security 2000 has been developed in collaboration with parents, teachers, government and industry security organisations. The software includes a customisable list of websites that have been identified as containing content inappropriate for children. The software puts a filter between the Internet and the home computer that examines inbound and outbound information and automatically blocks these websites. The list of websites is updated regularly and Symantec offers a subscription service to provide updates renewable annually.
Internet and the home
Children are not the only ones using the Internet and needing protection. Today, home PC users are using the Internet for shopping online, banking, investing money and researching information. As people use the Internet for day-to-day activities, they store a large amount of sensitive information on their computers.
Symantec's Norton Internet Security 2000 keeps the computer, applications and data safe regardless of the Internet connection. It defends PCs against malicious hackers who can browse and even steal personal files across the Internet. It also protects PCs against dangerous Internet viruses such as the 'Melissa Virus' which attacked PCs around the world in 1999. Norton Internet Security 2000 contains the award-winning technology of Norton AntiVirus, the number one anti-virus product in the industry . This technology detects and repairs new and unknown viruses as well as known viruses at all virus entry points.
Norton Internet Security 2000 can be set up to accommodate several users, each with a tailored Internet environment. This means that each family member can have a personal account that suits his or her needs - they simply log-in a user name. This will allow parents access to websites that are blocked out for the children.
