Symantec unveils Norton Internet Security 2002 Professional Edition and Norton AntiVirus 2002 Professional Edition
SYDNEY --NSW - February 22, 2002 -- Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC), the
world leader in Internet security, today announced Norton Internet Security
2002 Professional Edition and Norton AntiVirus 2002 Professional Edition.
Available immediately in Australia, the latest security solutions offer
small businesses and home office (SOHO) users unrivalled security
capabilities for protected Internet activities.
In addition to providing Symantec's effective firewall, privacy, antivirus,
and content filtering technologies, Norton Internet Security 2002
Professional Edition is the first Symantec consumer product to include
Norton Intrusion Detection. Norton Internet Security Professional keeps
small businesses and home users protected against port scans, viruses,
hackers, privacy breaches and online productivity distractions.
Norton AntiVirus 2002 Professional Edition has been developed to address the
needs of sophisticated users by automatically keeping their PCs and PDAs
safe from malicious code without interrupting productivity. Norton
AntiVirus 2002 Professional Edition is compatible with the latest Palm and
Windows operating systems and features new script-blocking technology. In
addition to protecting users from the latest virus threats, it prevents
downtime by enabling the quick recovery of erased files and the secure
elimination of sensitive and confidential digital documents.
"The Internet security concerns that small businesses face today are no
longer limited to threats from viruses and worms targeting PCs," said John
Donovan, Managing Director, Symantec Australia and New Zealand. "Attacks
from hackers, the loss of confidential information, downtime and
non-work-related Web surfing can impact productivity. Mobile devices are
also becoming increasingly connected to business networks and home computers
and now either hold or provide access to highly confidential personal and
business information."
"By using the new Professional Editions of Norton Internet Security 2002 and
Norton AntiVirus, small business and SOHO users can significantly improve
their resistance to these problems and proactively protect their systems
against security threats like viruses, Trojan horses and other malicious
code, as well as a wide range of blended threats, such as Nimda and Code
Red," added Donovan.
Norton Internet Security 2002 Professional Edition
Unlike other Internet security suites, Norton Internet Security 2002
Professional Edition is not a bundle product; all suite components are
designed to work together efficiently, eliminating the overlapping
functionality, poor performance, and excessive memory requirements of
bundled solutions. Norton Internet Security 2002 Professional Edition
features the solid firewall technology of Norton Personal Firewall 2002 and
trusted virus protection through Norton AntiVirus 2002 for the Windows
platform and Symantec AntiVirus 2002 for Palm OS.
Unique to the Professional Edition of Norton Internet Security 2002 is
Norton Intrusion Detection. This new feature complements the suite's
firewall technology, providing an additional layer of security. This
system, based on Symantec's enterprise-level intrusion detection technology,
examines the content of Internet traffic to intelligently intercept attacks
such as those caused by the Nimda and Code Red worms and then triggers an
appropriate action. Users, in turn, are prompted a response on attacks that
represent a real danger to their systems, thereby significantly reducing
interruptions.
Norton Internet Security 2002 Professional Edition also includes User Access
Manager, an easy-to-use supervisor feature that simplifies the configuration
of security settings in a small-network environment, and Norton Productivity
Control to manage Internet usage. Additionally, the new Network
Notification feature informs users when their computer is connected to a
wireless or other network.
Norton AntiVirus 2002 Professional Edition
Norton AntiVirus 2002 Professional Edition is designed to help maintain user
productivity by detecting and removing viruses without user intervention,
speeding recovery from virus attacks and keeping virus definitions
up-to-date. By automatically repairing and removing infected files in the
background, Norton AntiVirus 2002 Professional Edition eliminates the need
for user input and keeps interruptions to a minimum.
In addition, Symantec AntiVirus 2002 for Palm OS is included as an integral
component of Norton AntiVirus 2002 Professional Edition, providing real-time
antivirus protection to users of handheld devices. Symantec AntiVirus for
Palm OS secures personal data on Palm OS compatible devices at all times.
It features a device-resident, antivirus scanning engine that works in the
background protecting your Palm data from multiple sources of infection,
including HotSync, infrared and Internet download. The software is also
available to order separately from the Symantec online store at
www.Symantec.com.au.
New script-blocking technology constantly monitors scripts for virus-like
malicious behaviour in both incoming and outgoing e-mail, then stops their
activity and alerts users before the virus can spread and cause downtime.
Norton AntiVirus 2002 Professional Edition now protects and recovers
important applications and files from both accidental deletion and virus
damage. It also eliminates all traces of unnecessary confidential files on
your PC.
Includes one-year subscription of LiveUpdate

Professional Edition, Norton AntiVirus 2002 Professional Edition and
Symantec AntiVirus for Palm 2002 continuously to deal with new viruses and
other Internet threats. The automatic LiveUpdate features check for and
