Symantec announces new Firewall and VPN Appliance offering enhanced speed and integrated high availability/load balancing.
SYDNEY --NSW - May 17, 2002 -- Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC), the
world leader in Internet security, today announced Symantec VelociRaptor
1.5, a new version of its popular firewall and VPN appliance. Designed for
customers who value ease-of-use and security at a reasonable price,
VelociRaptor now provides support for Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and
new proxy functions to best secure video conferencing. In addition,
VelociRaptor offers the ability to extend the appliance's scalability and
eliminate network downtime by integrating high availability/load balancing.
Symantec VelociRaptor offers enterprise-class security by incorporating the
hybrid security architecture of Symantec Enterprise Firewall. Unlike other
firewalls that require users to open holes into their networks to support
video conferencing, VelociRaptor extends its industry-leading security with
new full application inspection proxy functions for video conferencing and
application sharing (H.323, RTSP). VelociRaptor's integrated
full-inspection scanning technique prevents unauthorised access to private
networks and confidential information by ensuring data is validated at all
seven levels of the protocol stack. Symantec VelociRaptor offers advanced
full-inspection engines and automated system hardening to provide more
comprehensive protection against complex Internet threats, such as Code Red
and Nimda, than traditional stateful inspection firewalls.
VelociRaptor also integrates Symantec's proxy secured VPN technology that
now includes the latest AES to provide high-level VPN security at speeds
three-times faster than conventional 3DES technology. With its included
standards-based gateway-to-gateway VPN, VelociRaptor extends enterprise
networks and delivers secure site-to-site remote access to corporate LANs.
The full VPN option provides secure remote-to-site tunnels for telecommuters
and other remote users equipped with the Symantec Enterprise VPN client with
integrated personal firewall.
"Businesses of all sizes require a high level of network security to protect
against today's multifaceted Internet attacks," said Leigh Costin, Group
Product Manager, Symantec, Asia Pacific. "The Symantec VelociRaptor
firewall/VPN appliance provides an ideal network perimeter security solution
for offices that demand exceptional data throughput, remote manageability
and enterprise-class security in a plug-and-protect appliance."
Symantec VelociRaptor can support some of the most demanding branch office
bandwidth needs with standard throughput in excess of 50 broadband
connections (calculation based on typical xDSL connection providing 512Kbps
per connection). With the optional integrated high availability and
load-balancing (HA/LB) feature, customers can cluster multiple appliances
together to handle even higher loads. In addition, when appliances are
clustered together, each node continuously monitors the other nodes and if
an appliance should fail, the other appliances in the cluster pick up the
failed nodes workload to continue to provide round-the-clock protection to
the network.
