Symantec Acquisitions of Riptech and Recourse Technologies Completed

SYDNEY --NSW - August 19, 2002 -- Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that the acquisitions of Riptech, Inc. and Recourse Technologies originally announced on July 17, 2002, have cleared the customary regulatory approvals and the transactions have been completed.

Symantec will now focus on the integration of Riptech's cutting edge security monitoring and management technology into Symantec's global network of world-class Security Operations Centers, creating the world leader in Managed Security Services.

In addition, Symantec will integrate Recourse's state-of-the-art ManHunt and ManTrap products into Symantec's current line of enterprise security solutions, bringing customers true gigabit speed network intrusion detection with next generation hybrid detection technology and the industry's leading "honeypot" solution.
