Symantec Launches Vertically Focused Web Sites
Sites Provide Industry-Specific Security News and Resources for Healthcare,
Banking, Finance and Insurance, and Public Sector Customers
SYDNEY --NSW - April 8, 2003 -- Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq:SYMC), the world
leader in Internet security, today announced the launch of Web sites for
security professionals in the healthcare, banking, finance and insurance,
and public sector industries. The Web sites provide a central resource for
security-related industry regulations, best practices and industry security
trends, as well as product and service related news.
Each of these industries is increasingly using technology to improve overall
productivity. As they move to these means of conducting business they must
employ information security to help ensure the integrity and confidentiality
of their data. For example:
Healthcare organisations are increasingly using new technologies to store
and transmit patient medical records. Internet security technology is
required to ensure the integrity and privacy of this patient information;
Banking, finance and insurance organisations process millions of
transactions a day, using multiple applications across multiple systems.
Security within these applications and between systems must be top notch to
ensure the integrity of those transactions; and, Public sector organisations
in the U.S., including federal, state and local governments and academic
institutions, have vast networks that must be protected. It is vital to the
nation's security and future to protect these infrastructures.
"Each of these industries have different security needs and requirements,
many of which are mandated by regulation, and customers want to know how to
solve their unique security challenges," said Chris Benham, Symantec's vice
president of enterprise marketing programs. "These sites are a single
source of tailored security information providing details on products and
services that will help customers secure their network environments."
Case studies, white papers and webcasts with content specific to the
security requirements of that industry are available on each site, along
with industry articles and information on Symantec's security solutions.
In addition each site includes a regulatory section with information about
regulations such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
(HIPAA) and the Graham-Leach Bliley Act (GLBA). These regulatory resource
centres include details on the acts and links to industry resources
including regulation background information and compliance guidelines.
