Symantec Client Security Earns Microsoft Certification
Symantec Client Security Will Support Windows
Server 2003, Including 64-Bit Windows
SYDNEY --NSW -- April 29, 2003 -- Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ:
SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced Symantec
Client Security with support for Windows Server 2003, including its 64-bit
Windows Server 2003. In addition, Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition,
which provides the antivirus technology within Symantec Client Security,
has earned Microsoft Certification for Windows Server 2003 Standard and
Enterprise editions.
"Microsoft is pleased that this latest version of Symantec AntiVirus
Corporate Edition and Symantec Client Security now supports the Windows
Server 2003 operating system," said Bob Ellsworth, director, Windows
Server Product Management Group, Microsoft Corp. "With support for
Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and 64-bit Windows, Symantec is ensuring
our mutual customers have up-to-date Internet security."
"Today's malicious code often spreads throughout a network because
of an inadequately protected client," said Lily De Los Rios, vice
president, Symantec Corp. "Symantec Client Security is the ideal
solution for organisations seeking to protect their networks from the
growing number of security risks entering their systems via under-protected
desktops and laptops."
Symantec Client Security integrates antivirus, personal firewall and intrusion
detection technologies to effectively protect desktops against today's
blended threats. Additionally, the critical response time during a blended
threat outbreak can be dramatically shortened through Symantec Client
Security's single update mechanism, combining virus definitions, firewall
rules and intrusion detection signatures.
Easy Configuration, Deployment and Management
Symantec Client Security offers IT administrators the ability to centrally
configure and deploy the solution as well as set day-to-day policy management
and reporting functions. To reduce administration time, administrators
can easily deploy Symantec Client Security using one of three pre-packaged
installations - full installation, lightly managed, and thin client, the
smallest possible footprint without sacrificing protection. Administrators
can also apply lock-down policies throughout the organisation to prevent
users from modifying client security settings. Customised policies can
be applied based on user groups (e.g. departments or locations).
Proactive and Integrated Security Against Blended Threats
Symantec Client Security is an integrated security solution that provides
a proactive approach to security against blended threats, such as Klez
and Code Red, before they attack. The integration of multiple security
functions enables Symantec to provide quick and comprehensive updates
using a single response mechanism when malicious code attacks occur, a
much more efficient and effective alternative to multiple-product updates.
When the firewall technology encounters a suspicious outgoing file it
will signal the antivirus scanning engine regardless of whether the antivirus
real-time protection is turned on or off. If the antivirus scan determines
the file is infected, the antivirus engine will instruct the firewall
technology to raise the threat level to high with a default action to
block the file from accessing the Internet. Most important, these updates
are delivered by the Symantec Security Response team, which provides fast,
global, integrated analysis and response.
Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition is also currently undergoing certification
testing for Windows Server 2003 DataCenter edition and Symantec Client
Security is currently in the testing process to earn the Designed for
Windows XP logo.
