Symantec Announces Participation in Cisco's Network Admission Control
Program
Symantec Teams with Cisco to Create Interoperability Between Its Leading
Anti-Virus Software and Cisco's Network Admission Control Program
Cupertino --Calif - 19 November, 2003 -- Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), today
announced that it has joined forces with Cisco Systems to provide solutions
that restrict network access to only compliant and trusted client machines
including personal computers and PDAs. With the implementation of Cisco
System's Network Admission Control (NAC) program, Symantec and Cisco are
working together to help address the soaring remediation costs resulting
from malicious threats entering enterprise networks.
IT administrators utilising Cisco's NAC and Symantec technology will have
the ability to set admission control policies that include consideration of
the security posture of the client machines attempting to attach to the
network. Out-of-compliance machines may be denied access, quarantined, or
sent to a separate location for remediation, while machines in compliance
with the organisations' set policies will be granted access to the network.
"We are pleased that Symantec is participating in this collaborative
program," said Charlie Giancarlo, senior vice president and general manager
of product development at Cisco Systems, Inc. "By working together, we will
be able to respond with enterprise security solutions that address the
pressing issues our mutual customers are facing daily."
Cisco's NAC software enables Symantec's enterprise client security solutions
to communicate security information, such as its current anti-virus state or
firewall protection, to a Cisco network when the client machine initiates
network access.
"Symantec is dedicated to working with industry leaders to provide the most
comprehensive security solutions available to combat today's blended
threats," said Gail Hamilton, executive vice president, product delivery and
response at Symantec. "Symantec's collaboration with Cisco supports
Symantec's extensive client compliancy initiative designed to promote the
enforcement of remote and mobile client security policies."
