Symantec's pcTelecommute Wins Outstanding Innovation in Telework Award International Telework Association & Council Honours Symantec at Annual Conference
TORONTO, October 27, 1998 -- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in utility software for business and personal computing has announced that the International Telework Association & Council (ITAC) awarded its Outstanding Innovation Telework Award to Symantec Corporation for pcTelecommute, the industry's first telecommuting software productivity solution.
John Heacock, ITAC president, presented the award to Symantec in Washington, D.C. at the Fifth Annual ITAC Conference. The Outstanding Innovation in Telework designation is awarded to the organisation, profit or non-profit, individual or team that has advanced telework by creating and implementing an outstanding and innovative program, product, process or service.
"The International Telework Association is pleased to honour Symantec with the Outstanding Innovation Award. Symantec has embraced the needs of telecommuters and their managers by developing new and useful tools necessary to make telework easier," said Gail Martin, executive director of ITAC.
"Each year, ITAC recognises outstanding contributors in the field of telework," said Julie Bond, ITAC Awards Chairperson. "Symantec is a leader and strong advocate of telework and deserves to be recognised on an international basis for their innovations."
"ITAC is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting the economic, social and environmental benefits of telework. Its members share information about the design and implementation of telecommuting programs, the development of the U.S. telework sector and telework research. Membership is comprised of individuals, corporations, government agencies, educators, consultants and vendors involved in telework and represents both the public and private sectors. ITAC's mission is to serve as the primary resource for information, education, standards and advocacy on telecommuting and telework.
"Symantec is honoured by this recognition from ITAC," said Christopher Calisi, vice president of Symantec's Remote Productivity Business Unit. "Like Symantec, ITAC is dedicated to understanding and meeting the telecommuting needs of all industries throughout the world. As a result, it is gratifying to be singled out for the initiative and foresight that products such as pcTelecommute represent."
Designed for and by telecommuters, pcTelecommute gives teleworks everything they need to work from home with the conveniences of being at the office. They can quickly create status reports for their managers from the editable work log, which automatically logs all incoming and outgoing calls, sent and received faxes, file transfers and file changes.
Telecommuters with CallerID-enabled phone service and modem can use pcTelecommute to manage interruptions by displaying all incoming phone numbers or only those of specified callers on their desktops. Telecommuters can save time and increase productivity by sending a fax or dialling a phone call right from their PC's and easily accessing and synchronising the files on their home and office PCs. In addition, with pcTelecommute, remote workers can minimise downtime and receive remote support from their own company help desk with the click of a button.
pcTelecommuting also includes "Tips for the Productive Telecommuter," video clips by Gil Gordon, a leading telecommuting consultant and the book "The Telecommuter's Advisor" by June Langhoff, a noted author in the telecommuting field. pcTelecommute even includes a phone line splitter to enable teleworkers to receive both voice and data calls without having to manually switch the connections.
