Symantec launches innovative program to provide Tech Support using pcANYWHERE'S Remote Control Capabilities

New Internet-Based Service Streamlines Troubleshooting/Support and Minimizes Downtime

TORONTO, October 28, 1998 -- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in utility software for business and personal computing has launched a new service, Chat Now! Remote Support. Symantec customers can receive technical support over the Internet using the advanced capabilities of pcANYWHERE. A Symantec technician will use pcANYWHERE to remotely control the user's computer to troubleshoot and repair installation, configuration and general system problems in a fraction of the time traditional telephone support methods require.

"As the developer of the number one selling remote control and file transfer product, we are demonstrating our leadership by revolutionizing the technical support/remote support market," said Mike Gelardi, product manager. "Using the market leading technology in pcANYWHERE enables us to provide an unparalleled level of service to our customers."

Using remote control for support can not only reduce the amount of time it takes to resolve a problem, but it also serves as a valuable learning tool for users who may not be comfortable troubleshooting their own systems Because this new remove control service is being offered through Chat Now!, which includes Internet conferencing capabilities, users can converse with a technician while the remote support is occurring. Chat Now! is Symantec's most recent support program. Its innovative technology was developed for Symantec by Business Evolution, Inc., a New Jersey based software firm.

Remote control support is currently available to Symantec ACT! users from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. (Pacific Time) Monday through Friday. Other Symantec product lines will follow in the near future. Additional information is available from the Symantec Chat Now! support site at www.symantec.com/techsupp/chat/index_js.html.
