Norton SystemWorks Beats Network Associates' Utility Suite Hands Down in PC/Computing Showdown

Powerful integration, useful web tools and more comprehensive rescue system earn Norton SystemWorks a five-star rating

TORONTO, November 6, 1998 -- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in utility software for business and personal computing has announced that Norton SystemWorks has earned an impressive five-star rating - the highest rating possible - from PC Computing magazine. Norton SystemWorks beat Network Associates' (Nasdaq: NETA) utility suite in a recent product comparison. "Norton SystemWorks' powerful integration, useful web tools and more comprehensive rescue system make it the better buy to protect your PC and its data," said editor Dave Johnson.

In the product comparison titled "Crashproof your PC" in the November 1998 PC Computing, Johnson wrote, "Although both programs offer one set of menus for most of the tools, with Nuts & Bolts 8 the experience isn't seamless - you need to install VirusScan separately and it doesn't integrate into the suite." After evaluating the two products' monitoring capabilities, Johnson concluded, "One difference between the two programs is that SystemWorks offers more in-depth assistance than Nuts & Bolts 98...SystemWorks and, to a lesser degree, Nuts & Bolts 98 have truly blossomed into comprehensive utility suites." Johnson also noted SystemWorks' superior rescue system, writing, "SystemWorks even lets you create a rescue Zip disk-complete with a copy of Windows that you can use to run your PC if you can't boot from the hard disk."

Norton SystemWorks was designed specifically to provide consumers a comprehensive, integrated and flexible solution to keep their computers running safely, reliably and at peak performance. Unlike bundles of products from multiple software companies, like McAfee Office, Norton SystemWorks gives users everything they need in one box - - one install, one product update centre, one manual, one support line and one emergency disk set - - and with a single-easy-to-use interface. This seamless integration eliminates the problems consumers face with typical bundled offerings, including overlapping product functionality, significant incompatibility issues, limited interface consistency and overall mismanagement of system resources.

"For over 15 years, Norton has delivered the best solutions for making computing easier and more reliable for consumers of all levels. It is rewarding to receive recognition from PC Computing not only for our superior products, but for our unbeatable product integration," said Engrique Salem, vice president of Symantec Security and Assistance Business Unit.

Norton SystemWorks is comprised of Symantec's award-winning utility and anti-virus products, including Norton Utilities, Norton AntiVirus, Norton CrashGuard and Norton Web Services. In addition, each Norton SystemWorks package includes a free Norton SystemWorks Bonus Pack containing Remove-It 98, Norton Mobile Essentials, Visual Page, WinFax Basic Edition and pcANYWHERE Express. The complete package represents a retail value totalling over (US)$500.

PC Computing is a leader in testing and reporting on productivity and usability of computer products as they perform in real-world business environments. Reaching more than 1,000,000 paid readers, PC Computing is published by Ziff-Davis Publishing Co.
