Symantec Continues to lead U.S. Retail Market

TORONTO, November 10, 1998 -- Data released by independent market intelligence firm PC Data for September shows that Symantec (Nasdaq: SYMC) continues to lead the U.S. business software retail market with four products in PC Data's top ten best-sellers list and eight in the top 20.

In less than a full month of sales, Norton SystemWorks, the first truly integrated utility suite, appeared in fifteenth position. Norton AntiVirus 5.0 was the best-selling anti-virus product in second position overall. Other products in the PC Data top ten include pcANYWHERE 32 in sixth position, Norton Utilities in eighth and Norton AntiVirus 4.0 in ninth. Norton CrashGuard Deluxe, WinFax Pro 9.0 and ACT! 4.0 are the other Symantec products in the PC Data top 20.

"The retail market picked up well in September after a long period of softness," said Keith Robinson, vice president Americas. "The data shows how strongly Symantec products are performing across the entire range. The appearance of Norton SystemWorks in the best-selling list demonstrates how well consumers have responded to the benefits of a truly integrated utility suite."
