Norton Systemworks leads the Utilities Suite category

Symantec Leads the U.S. Retail Software Market with Four of the Top Ten Products

TORONTO, November 24, 1998 -- Recent data released by independent market intelligence firm, PC Data, confirms that Symantec Corporation's (Nasdaq: SYMC) newest product, Norton SystemWorks is the fourth best-selling Windows business software product. Norton SystemWorks is the first integrated utility suite to provide protection, maintenance, problem solving and performance boosting for consumers accessing the Internet. Norton SystemWorks is outselling Network Associates' (Nasdaq: NETA) bundle product by nearly a three-to-one margin.

According to PC Data's October software sales report, Symantec continues to be the leading provider of business software in the U.S. retail market next to Microsoft, with more top-selling Windows and Macintosh business software packages than any other software vendor.

Norton AntiVirus 5.0 continues to be the best-selling anti-virus product for Internet users looking for protection from the latest threats on both Windows and Macintosh platforms and the best-selling Windows product overall next to Microsoft Windows 98. Other Symantec products in the PC Data top 20 list for Windows include Norton Utilities 3.0, WinFax Pro 9.0 and pcAnywhere 32. Symantec is also a leading provider of Macintosh business software. In addition to Norton AntiVirus 5.0, Norton Utilities 4.0 and the Norton Utilities 4.0 upgrade placed second and eighth, respectively, on the PC Data top 20 list for Macintosh products.

"Symantec continually strives to offer high-quality products and excellent customer service," said Keith Robinson, vice president of the Americas region for Symantec. "This report confirms the strength and popularity of our products among both Windows and Macintosh users and the current success of Norton SystemWorks reaffirms that customers prefer the reliability and compatibility that only an integrated suite can offer."
