pcANYWHERE32 hailed as Editors' Choice by Windows NT Magazine

Features, Ease of Use Put Symantec's Remote Control Software at the Top, Besting Six Competitor's Offerings

TORONTO, December 23, 1998 -- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in utility software for business and personal computing, announced that pcANYWHERE32 won Windows NT Magazine's select Editor's Choice award. pcANYWHERE32 was singled out from a field of seven products ad the best remote control software for Windows NT. Earlier this year, PC Magazine and Network Computing also honoured pcANYWHERE32 with their Editor's Choice awards.

Each remote control program in the Windows NT product comparison was put through a series of tests that simulate the tasks a remote user or help desk technician might attempt. The editor ran the tests sitting in front of both the remote laptop and the host server allowing him to experience the usability of the product and how it actually works in a help desk environment. Tests were run twice: once using dial-up networking and once across the standalone network.

"We are extremely pleased that pcANYWHERE32 has distinguished itself in Windows NT Magazine's rigorous review process and has been named the best-performing remote control solution for NT," said Christopher Calisi, vice president of Symantec's Remote Productivity Solutions Business Unit. "The results of the meticulous product assessment process acknowledge that pcANYWHERE32 is a world-class, secure and reliable remote control solution."

"When I analysed my tests' results and reviewed all seven remote control products' features, I gave the Editors' Choice award to Symantec's pcANYWHERE32, read the review, which will be published in the December 1998 issue. "Remote control features that stand out include great data compression, screen blanking and screen and colour scaling for increased performance. Equal to the task, pcANYWHERE32's file transfer features let users copy, synchronise and clone folders and files between the host and remote system. Data encryption, virus scanning, directory/drive and file restricting options round out pcANYWHERE32's robust security options."

The Review also called pcANYWHERE32 the most intuitive program to install, configure and use. "The number of screens I had to click through were minimal," wrote the reviewer, "and the interface let me quickly connect, accomplish my work and disconnect. For those times when you can't physically be in front of a computer, let pcANYWHERE32 provide the virtual travel experience."

pcANYWHERE32 is the top-selling remote-control and file-transfer software. pcANYWHERE32 makes it easy to connect to the office PC from home or the road. With pcANYWHERE32, users can remotely control their office PCs via modem or the Internet and synchronise files between the two computers. Help desk professionals can use pcANYWHERE32 to support multiple users from anywhere and deliver training materials and pre-configured software updates to many users at once.
