PC Magazine names Cleansweep Deluxe Best of 1998

Publication says CleanSweep "Stands Clearly Ahead of the Pack"

TORONTO, December 23, 1998 -- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in utility software for business and personal computing, today announced that CleanSweep Deluxe was named Best of 1998 by PC Magazine. In the January 1999 issue, the publication named CleanSweep Deluxe to the editor's short list of the year's top utilities.

CleanSweep is a key component of Norton SystemWorks, the industry's number one integrated utility suite. According to PC Data, Norton SystemWorks is already the fourth best selling Windows Business software. PC Data reports that Norton SystemWorks is also outselling Network Associates' (Nasdaq: NETA) macaque Office by a three to one margin.

"PC Magazine is unquestionably one of the most well-respected publications in the industry. We are pleased that in singling out CleanSweep Deluxe from scores of competitors' offerings, editors recognise CleanSweep Deluxe as the leading uninstall product on the market today," said Enrique Salem, vice president of Symantec's Security and Assistance Business Unit.

Each year, PC Magazine evaluated thousands of products to determine the few that deserve to be called the best, then backs its claims with benchmark test results and expert analyses. When we way a product is the best of a particular category," magazine editors wrote, "you can take that to the bank - or to the store."

Describing CleanSweep Deluxe as "clearly ahead of the pack," editor Jim Seymour cited the product's rare combination of speed, power and safety and lauded its comparable usability features. "The tabbed interface is very intuitive and places many options in plain view," he wrote. "And CleanSweep Deluxe properly updates your registry. But what sets CleanSweep Deluxe apart is its safety net: Red and yellow lights indicate whether removing a particular file could cause problems."
