IHA/Symantec Partnership Puts Award-Winning Symantec Software Into IHA Systems

TORONTO - March 12, 1999 -- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in utility software for business and personal computing, has announced its had formed a partnership with Insurance Holdings of America, Inc. (IHA), the Beverly, Mass.-based company that distributes its Internet-enabled insurance distribution system. Under the terms of the agreement, Symantec will deliver software-including ACT!, Norton AntiVirus and Norton Utilities- to IHA employees as well as to the company's GROUPadvantage franchises at discounted rates.

GROUPadvantage is the only workplace and affinity marketing insurance program that delivers an Internet-based technology platform featuring a multiple product, multiple company application. The technology enables the GROUPadvantage franchised agent to conduct the complete insurance transaction process - - sale, underwriting, billing and ultimately issuance - - from the point-of-sale via a secure, private IP network.

As a result of the partnership between Symantec and IHA, GROUPadvantage franchisees and IHA employees will utilise ACT! Contact management software, as well as benefit from Norton AntiVirus virus protection software and Norton Utilities problem-solving software.

Insurance Holdings subsidiary Consumer Insurance Services of America, Inc. (CISA), the product development and distribution company for GROUPadvantage, has been contracted by SAM'S CLUB, a division of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., to offer a full menu of voluntary insurance benefits, including auto, homeowners, life, accident, health and financial services products to the SAM'S Club membership. The program utilises Insurance Holdings' state-of-the-art, Internet-based processing system to perform rating, quoting, underwriting, policy issuance, billing and claims functionality.

Symantec Software Enhances Operations
ACT! is an award-winning, fully customisable contact manager. With ACT!, the CISA sales force and GROUPadvantage franchises can not only track key information about contacts, but automatically link to numerous sites on the Internet. For example, with one click of the mouse, the sales professional or insurance agent can search the Internet for a street-level map of the contact's business or home location and get driving directions to their client's site. In addition, CISA associates can use ACT! to communicate directly with individual contacts, groups of contacts or an entire contact database using Internet e-mail or other e-mail systems. This enables the sales force or GROUPadvantage insurance agent to develop and maintain existing business relationships while increasing business with new customers. In addition, LiveUpdate technology makes it easy for Insurance Holdings personnel to obtain ACT! product information, patches and updates via the Internet or modem.

With Norton AntiVirus, Insurance Holdings employees and GROUPadvantage franchises are protected at all virus entry points, including shared floppy disks, the Internet, e-mail attachments and networks. Norton AntiVirus reduces the risks associated with Internet-based communications with technology that detects and removes dangerous forms of ActiveX code, Java applets and Trojan Horses. IHA personnel and GROUPadvantage agents can use the product's Quarantine as well as Scan and Deliver features to isolate infected files and send them to the Symantec AntiVirus Research Centre (SARC) for analysis.

Norton Utilities provides Insurance Holdings with crash protection, registry repair and optimisation and disaster recovery in a single simple-to-use package. Norton Utilities not only finds problems but goes a critical step further and offers clear, prioritised recommendations for the best way to solve those problems. As a result, it is an indispensable tools for maintaining computer systems at peak performance levels. GROUPadvantage franchises can protect their online communications with the Connection Doctor feature, which identifies modem problems that might prevent them from getting on the Internet. The franchises, as well as IHA employees, can use the Registry Doctor and WinDoctor features to scan and repair software errors that may cause problems in their Windows systems. GROUPadvantage franchises can rely on Norton Zip Rescue to safely recover after a system crash.
