CSUSM Office of Extended Studies Will Hold Two-day Seminars in Internet-ready "Smart" Classrooms

TORONTO - March 16, 1999 -- Symantec Corporation (NASDAQ: SYMC) and the California State University at San Marcos (CSUSM) Office of Extended Studies today announced its series of VisualCafé for Java Training Seminars, featuring the state-of-the-art VisualCafé development environment. Students at CSUSM, site of Symantec's first academic authorised VisualCafé Java Training Centre, will learn Java using VisualCafé Database Edition version 3.0 within a "smart" classroom equipped with advanced computer and electronics technology and fully wired for the Internet. The seminar is open to the public as well.

"It's a pleasure to see the Computer Science Department at CSU San Marcos taking advantage of the Academic Partnership Program and doing such a remarkable job of offering leading-edge resources to its students," remarked Mansour Safai, Vice President of Symantec's Internet Tools Division. "Forward-thinking professors like Dr. Wang are instrumental in the advancement of Java education for budding professionals, and we're proud that Symantec VisualCafé is a key part of that strategy."

"Over the past year and a half, CSU San Marcos has been using Symantec VisualCafé for various projects, and we continue to be impressed at the way it speeds the students' path to proficiency," said Dr. Stanley Wang, Associate Professor of Computer Science at the California State University San Marcos. "We are extremely pleased to be working with Symantec to provide such excellent training in Java technology to our CSU students, both graduate and undergraduate."
