Symantec and HP Integrate pcAnywhere with New HP OpenView Desktop Administrator

Technology Integration Allows Administrators and Help Desks to Lower Costs and Enhance Management Functionality

CUPERTINO, Calif. - Nov. 10, 1999 - Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced the integration of its new pcAnywhere 9.0 remote support solution with the new HP OpenView Desktop Administrator Version 5.0 from Hewlett-Packard Company. HP will provide the integrated version of pcAnywhere as an option to its Desktop Administrator 5.0 customers, allowing them to save valuable time and money.

The integration of pcAnywhere 9.0, an advanced remote control solution for facilitating easy deployment, administration, and management of desktop PC's, enables HP OpenView administrators to access any Windows-based computer throughout the entire IT infrastructure, lowering the overall cost of desktop support. Help desks can launch a pcAnywhere session and provide hands-on troubleshooting and remote support to LAN-based, remote and mobile workers directly from the HP Desktop Administrator console.

"Whether desktop administrators and help desks are using the integrated products to upgrade and configure PC software or check for Y2K compliance, this integration allows them to more quickly and cost effectively manage systems and troubleshoot and fix PC problems," said Robin Matlock, vice president of product management, Symantec Corporation. "Additionally, tightened security in version 9.0 enables administrator's to use remote management in a secure environment."

What's New in pcAnywhere 9.0 For HP OpenView Desktop Administrator 5.0 Customers
pcAnywhere 9.0's enhanced security includes Windows NT user and group authentication on Windows 95/98 host, SNMP messaging which quickly alerts administrators of pcAnywhere activities, and central logging and auditing. All of this is viewed and managed from within the Desktop Administrator console. Version 9.0 also provides LDAP support allowing administrators to more easily locate and connect to pcAnywhere hosts and gateways on large networks, intranets and the Internet.

"Providing a world-class remote-control solution that works within the Desktop Administrator console allows our customers to provide a greater level of support and manageability to their customers," said Olivier Helleboid, acting vice president and general manager of HP's OpenView Software Business Unit. "pcAnywhere 9.0's focus on remote management and remote support make the new integration even more valuable to HP OpenView Desktop Administrator users."
