Symantec Canada Creates New Division to Service Small-to-Medium Sized Businesses
New Symantec Division Responds to Customer Needs in Leading Canadian Business Sector
TORONTO, Ont. - Nov. 19, 1999 - Symantec Canada, a subsidiary of Symantec Corporation (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced the creation of Symantec's Small Medium Business Division. This new Symantec initiative is a response to the growing needs of the small-to-medium sized business community in Canada.
According to a recent IDC Canada survey (http://www.idc.ca), an overwhelming 99.76 per cent of all companies in Canada have fewer than 500 employees and 67 per cent of all business computers in Canada are in companies with less than 500 employees.
"Symantec created this division to aggressively respond and provide value-added services to Canada's largest market sector," said Chris Monnette, General Manager of Symantec Canada. "These services will include information on mission-critical issues such as Y2K, system security and remote access. Small and medium sized businesses don't always have a big I.S. staff on hand. With this new division, we aim to bridge that gap by leveraging our resources to respond to the needs of these customers."
Symantec's targeting of Canadian businesses with 10-500 employees will be overseen by Kevin Krempulec, Sales Manager, Small Medium Business Accounts. Krempulec will head the new Symantec division, along with a dedicated team tasked with servicing this key market segment and with meeting the needs of small-to-medium sized corporate customers through research and education. Responsibility for the final sale of Symantec products, services and solutions will remain with channel sales and value-added resellers.
"We will continue to rely on our VAR and channel partners to sell our small-to-medium sized corporate products and services, " said Kevin Krempulec. "Symantec is solely interested in providing the right information to our customers so they know which solution is best for their needs."
The Small Medium Business Division will focus on those Symantec products proven to be of greatest utility to the small-to-medium sized corporate customer. These products include the market-leading
Norton AntiVirus (Corporate Edition); the remote access and control product
pcAnywhere; the disk-imaging utility
Ghost 6.0; the URLabs range of
Internet access control and
e-mail scanning solutions; and the famous
Norton Utilities suite.
