pcAnywhere 9.2 First Remote Control Product to Pass Arduous Requirements for Windows 2000 Certification

CUPERTINO, Calif. - March 20, 2000 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that
pcAnywhere 9.2 is the first remote control product to receive Windows 2000 Certification. The rigorous certification program helps customers identify applications that meet new levels of accessibility standards and offer smooth migration to Windows 2000. To earn Windows 2000 Certification, pcAnywhere underwent a number of complex changes, including incorporating a new installer, utilising Active Directory Service, and adding full support for long file names.
"Symantec's placement on the short list of vendors with Windows 2000-Certified solutions indicates our continued tradition of market and technology leadership," said Elizabeth Magliana, vice president, product management, Enterprise Solutions Division, Symantec Corporation. "IT professionals can now count on pcAnywhere as a tool to help ease Windows 2000 deployment."
In a study titled "The Windows 2000 Logo: More Teeth Added," Gartner Group emphasized that Microsoft's new logo program specifications are so strict that many applications are unable to qualify. The report also noted that using logo-certified software reduces the cost of desktop support and downtime and facilitates Windows 2000's Zero Administration Windows (ZAW) capabilities, thereby reducing TCO even more for enterprise customers.

Windows 2000-Certified pcAnywhere 9.2 is now available through Symantec resellers and can support desktops and servers running DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 9.x, Windows NT, and Windows 2000.
