Symantec's Procomm Plus 4.8 Provides More Reliable Connections For Fast, Accurate Communications
New Version Includes Virus Scanning, Increased Customization
CUPERTINO, Calif. - March 21, 2000 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced
Procomm Plus 4.8, the most efficient and reliable terminal emulation and file transfer PC-based tool for accessing mainframes as well as midrange and specialized systems. Procomm 4.8 provides enhanced reliability during terminal emulation and file transfers, full support for Windows 2000, and usability and security enhancements.
"Procomm Plus 4.8 provides users with flexible and reliable connectivity across the entire computing spectrum-from mainframes to laptops," said Elizabeth Magliana, vice president of product management, Enterprise Solutions Division, Symantec Corporation. "It is a dynamic and robust product which has become a valuable complement to Symantec's family of security and support solutions."
Version 4.8 Enhancements
Through rigorous testing, Symantec engineers enhanced Procomm Plus' ability to provide reliable connections and reduced the potential for system crashes. In the event of a lost connection, Version 4.8 also allows users to start their session transfers from the point at which the connection was lost.
Procomm Plus 4.8 also adds security components by including built-in virus scanning during file transfers. Symantec's award-winning virus scanning technology protects user's computer systems and business data, offering peace of mind and greater security for mission-critical business applications. Since files are scanned for viruses during transfers, infection by remote users is greatly reduced.
In addition to Windows 95, 98, and NT 4.0, version 4.8 adds full support for Windows 2000. As companies migrate to the new operating system, Procomm Plus 4.8 can be seamlessly deployed and does not require additional training for users. Version 4.8 also provides users with an ASPECT manual and sample scripts to assist in automating routine tasks and customizing the program to fit their business needs. Easy-to-use and powerful, ASPECT scripting provides users with more than 500 commands to customize and control communications tasks.
Another feature of the new version is Symantec's LiveUpdate technology, which automatically downloads the latest product information and software revisions. And, as part of the Symantec product family, Procomm Plus 4.8 is backed by Symantec's superior customer service and technical support.
Pricing and Availability
Procomm Plus 4.8 is available now and is priced at $225.00(CDN). Upgrades are available for $105.00(CDN).
