Norton Internet Security 2000 Provides Home PC Users Total Internet Protection

Norton Internet Secrity 2000 Defends Against Hackers, Protects Privacy, Eliminates Dangerous Viruses

Norton Internet Security 2000 Family Edition Adds Powerful Parental Control and Web Filtering Capabilities

TORONTO, Ont. - June 12, 2000 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced Norton Internet Security 2000 2.0 and Norton Internet Security 2000 2.0 Family Edition, the industry's first and only fully integrated personal Internet security suites designed for consumers. Norton Internet Security 2000 gives Windows 95/98 and Windows NT/2000 users essential Internet protection in one complete security and privacy suite, defending against malicious hackers, privacy intrusions, and viruses. Norton Internet Security Family Edition adds powerful parental control capabilities to limit children's access to inappropriate Web content and protect confidential family information.

"The Internet offers both adults and children a nearly unlimited universe of content and information. However, Internet access also exposes consumers to hackers, viruses, and privacy threats," said Steve Cullen, senior vice president of Symantec's Consumer Products Division. "By providing a comprehensive, integrated Internet security solution Norton Internet Security 2000 enables consumers to get the most out of the Internet safely, reliably, and with total peace of mind."

Norton Internet Security 2000
Norton Internet Security 2000 is the first product to include the security capabilities home PC users need in a single integrated suite. The product includes a fully integrated version of Norton Personal Firewall to block hacking attacks and alert users to unauthorized connections and attempted intrusions. The firewall provides protection from the most common hacking threats right out of the box with no configuration required. Norton Internet Security 2000 also includes Norton Privacy Control, allowing users to prevent cookies from tracking their movements on the web and to stop sensitive information from being sent to web sites without their knowledge.

The inclusion of the award-winning Norton AntiVirus software in Norton Internet Security 2000 guards against viruses, worms, malicious Java applets, ActiveX code, and other Internet threats.

Norton Internet Security 2000 Family Edition
Norton Internet Security 2000 Family Edition includes all of the capabilities of Norton Internet Security 2000 with the addition of parental control capabilities. This component allows parents to control which Web sites each child can visit and prevent children from sending confidential family information, such as credit card and phone numbers to unsecured Web sites. Norton Internet Security 2000 Family Edition includes a list of objectionable sites that have been categorized so that parents can choose what categories of sites are appropriate for their kids to see. Parents can easily block access to all sites on the list, and they can customize the list by adding sites. Additionally, Norton Internet Security 2000 Family Edition allows parents to configure different Internet access levels for each member of the family.

Ongoing Protection
Both Norton Internet Security 2000 and Norton Internet Security 2000 Family Edition provide ongoing protection from viruses, hacking attacks and inappropriate web content. Norton Internet Security 2000 includes one year of free virus and firewall protection updates to keep users protected from the latest Internet security threats. The Family Edition not only includes virus and firewall protection updates, but also includes one year of free web filtering list updates to help parents protect children from the increasing number of inappropriate web sites.

Category Leadership
Norton Internet Security has quickly established a leading position in the market. In March 2000, the product was the first Internet security solution to be named to PC Data's list of Top Selling Business Software when it debuted at number ten. By April 2000, the product had climbed to number seven on the PC Data list. In addition, Norton Internet Security received an Editor's Choice award from PC Magazine in the publication's security round up.
