Symantec and Symbian Announce Partnership to Enhance Security Features for Symbian OS Smartphones

CUPERTINO, Calif. - July 30, 2002 - Symantec Corp., (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, and Symbian, the leading provider of operating systems for smartphones, today announced that they have signed an agreement that advances Symantec's efforts to extend its range of award-winning Internet security solutions to Symbian OS smartphones.

Symantec is in the forefront of providing enterprise and consumer customers with total end-to-end protection for today's connected world. By becoming a Symbian Platinum Partner, Symantec is demonstrating its strong commitment to the innovative and fast-growing Symbian OS. This new partnership will facilitate in-depth interaction between Symantec's Internet security experts and Symbian technical teams as new generations of Symbian OS are developed.

"Research has shown that fears about wireless security are a chief deterrent to the widespread adoption of mobile computing devices. Symantec is the clear leader in the Internet security space, protecting more than 100 million users worldwide. By working closely with Symbian, Symantec can help propel the wireless industry forward by addressing this critical concern among potential users," said Steve Cullen, senior vice president of Symantec Consumer and Client Product Delivery.

"Now that the majority of the world's handset manufacturers are Symbian OS licensees, we're signing up key industry leaders under the Symbian Platinum Program to ensure the rapid adoption of Symbian OS phones with key technologies, solutions and services," said Gilles Allain, Vice President of Partnerships and Alliances, Symbian. "This agreement with Symantec, with their strong position in the Internet security space, will enable the delivery of more secure and better solutions optimized for Symbian OS, implemented for the benefit of carriers, promoting m-commerce and ultimately enabling secure wireless services for the end user."
