Symantec's DeepSight Alert Services Provide Customers with Intelligence Needed to Proactively Combat Malicious Threats

TORONTO, ON. - November 12, 2002 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced Symantec DeepSight Alert Services 4.0, an advanced alerting system that proactively alerts IT staff of Internet security threats and provides recommendations on how to protect their specific environment. Symantec DeepSight Alert Services 4.0 introduces several new and enhanced features to streamline security for enterprises.

The product's new Alert Status Tracking feature identifies if an alert has been reviewed and what appropriate action has been taken. Users can now quickly see the alert status as it changes throughout the process toward resolution. In addition, version 4.0 enables enterprises to specify the level of detail an alert should include for a specified recipient. There are now six alert detail levels, offering the right level of information for both end users and executives, while still providing the comprehensive and highly detailed description required by technical IT staff.

"Symantec's DeepSight Alert Services enables our enterprise customers to outpace security threats and protect their critical business assets," said Arthur Wong, vice president of Symantec Security Response. "The speed and precision with which Symantec DeepSight Alert Services was integrated into our enterprise security offerings underscores the importance Symantec places on providing highly proactive services to our customers."

Symantec DeepSight Alert Services 4.0 also provides many configuration enhancements. Customers often find that multiple contacts in a company want to use the same technology lists for alerting purposes. Symantec DeepSight Alert Services now enables users to not only modify an existing technology list but also to share a technology list owned and maintained by another user.

Symantec DeepSight Alert Services provides comprehensive monitoring covering a broad range of products while saving companies significant time and resources. The solution aggregates and analyzes information from more than 1,600 vendors and 3,400 products with nearly 13,000 distinct versions.

To ensure quality and credibility of security information, Symantec DeepSight Alert Services tracks data from more than 140 different sources. Further, Symantec DeepSight Alert Services is supported by the unprecedented security expertise of Symantec Security Response, a team of dedicated intrusion experts, security engineers, virus hunters, security analysts, and global technical support teams that work in tandem to provide extensive coverage for enterprise businesses and consumers. Symantec Security Response leverages sophisticated threat and early warning systems to help provide customers with comprehensive, global 24/7 Internet security expertise to proactively guard against today's complex threats.

Symantec DeepSight Alert Services 4.0, which identifies potential threats to the enterprise, is complemented by Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System, which identifies active attacks. Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System tracks exploits as they happen on a global basis, providing early warning of active threats actually being exploited on a real-time basis. Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System enables administrators to better prioritize and act upon information with a more detailed understanding of enterprise risk.
