Symantec Offers Webcast on Increasing Risk of Spyware and Bots

Toronto, ON - March 15, 2005 - Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC), the global leader in information security, today announced that it will host a webcast offering information on how organizations can proactively protect their network against spyware and bots. The webcast, titled "Spyware and Bots - The Latest Enterprise Network Threats" will be held on Thursday, March 17, at 9:00 a.m. PDT. Attendees can register at https://enterprisesecurity.symantec.com/content/webcastregistration.cfm?SSL=YES&webcastID=144.

John Harrison, group product manager at Symantec, will discuss how spyware and bots are fast becoming one of the greatest security concerns for enterprises, and describe steps to proactively protect against these new risks. Spyware gathers sensitive information and provides the data to an external party, often for monetary gain. Bots are programs that are covertly installed on a targeted system, allowing an unauthorized user to remotely control the computer for various purposes. Both spyware and bots compromise the security of an enterprise's network.

"Enterprise customers must protect themselves against the significant and growing risk of spyware and bots," said Harrison. "Blocking these risks at the network level and protecting employee desktops helps prevent confidential information from being transmitted outside the enterprise." IT personnel who are tasked with implementing network security and intrusion prevention solutions, as well as those who make strategic security decisions are encouraged to attend.
