Symantec Announces Norton Systemworks 2005 with Increased Data Protection and Problem Solving Capabilities
Newest Version of Software Suite Includes Full Version of Norton GoBack For Added Layer of Data Protection
Hong Kong -- 21 September 2004 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the global leader in information security, today announced Norton SystemWorks 2005, the newest version of Symantec's market-leading data protection and problem solving suite. Norton SystemWorks 2005 includes, for the first time, a full version of Symantec's award-winning Norton GoBack, which allows users to undo serious computer problems by returning their PC to a time when it was working properly and data was intact.
"System damage, user error, virus infections and a myriad of other problems can lead to data loss, which can be a devastating experience for computer users if they are unable to recover the valuable information stored on their computers," said Matthew Moynahan, Vice President of Consumer Products and Solutions at Symantec. "It's important to have a solution like Norton SystemWorks 2005, which can help prevent common computer problems from occurring, diagnose and fix issues as they happen, and serve as a recovery tool in the event that data must be restored."
Symantec's Norton SystemWorks 2005 also includes Norton AntiVirus 2005, the world's most trusted antivirus solution. Integrated seamlessly into Norton SystemWorks, Norton AntiVirus features new Internet Worm Protection, which safeguards consumer and home office users from new types of fast-spreading blended Internet worms that attack computer users' systems through multiple entry points. Combined with its ability to detect non-virus threats including spyware, adware and keystroke logging programmes, Norton AntiVirus is the best line of defense against Internet threats.
In addition, Norton SystemWorks 2005 includes Smith Micro Software Inc.'s (Nasdaq: SMSI) CheckIt Diagnostics, which offers one of the quickest and most thorough evaluations of a PC's hardware. Also included in the Norton SystemWorks 2005 suite is a line of problem prevention products that provide comprehensive tools for defense. Norton Utilities optimises and fixes hard drives, and an enhanced version of One Button Checkup allows users to analyse and fix common problems on their computer. Norton Cleanup provides users with an intuitive method of removing Internet clutter such as cookies, cache and history, which can take up space and inhibit system performance. Another feature, System Optimizer allows users to control most Windows XP settings from one location - making it easier to manage shortcuts, customise appearance and even change registry settings.
Turn Back the Clock to Undo Mistakes
Norton SystemWorks 2005 features Norton GoBack 4.0, the newest version of Symantec's powerful data protection tool that includes capabilities for restoring and recovering data by undoing serious computer problems such as system crashes, virus damage, failed software installations, and user errors. Users can also test new programmes with confidence by using SafeTry Mode, Norton GoBack 4.0's unique feature that creates a temporary state to try software and gives users the option to accept or reject the changes. Norton GoBack 4.0 is a valuable tool for multi-user PCs, where the ability to undo user changes is critical in recovering files or folders that have accidentally been deleted by other users. Utilising simple undo functionality, users can quickly reverse mistakes or rescue one or several files.
Comprehensive Protection Against Blended Threats
Norton SystemWorks 2005 helps keep users safe from the latest virus threats with the newest release of Norton AntiVirus, the industry leader in antivirus solutions. Norton SystemWorks 2005 includes a full version of Norton AntiVirus 2005, including Internet Worm Protection, which protects users from Internet worm threats by blocking unsolicited suspicious inbound traffic.
QuickScan, an additional feature of Norton AntiVirus 2005, provides a more proactive line of virus defense. QuickScan automatically scans a system as soon as it receives the latest virus definitions, and immediately removes those threats with improved removal capabilities. Norton AntiVirus 2005 also features Enhanced PreInstall Scan to detect and terminate infections already loaded in memory.
Norton AntiVirus 2005 also continues to provide automatic removal of viruses, worms, Trojan horses and instant messaging threats; spyware detection; scanning and cleaning of incoming and outgoing e-mails and attachments; and detection of virus infections in compressed files. As a result, Norton AntiVirus 2005 serves as a wide shield against an expansive range of malicious code.
New, Powerful Recovery Capabilities Available in Norton SystemWorks 2005 Premier
Symantec also offers Norton SystemWorks 2005 Premier, which includes all of the components of Norton SystemWorks 2005, in addition to comprehensive computer backup capabilities to keep systems up and running with minimum effort. Norton SystemWorks 2005 Premier features the new Symantec Recovery Disk, which gives users whose computers won't start the ability to boot, perform system fixes and virus scans, restore backup images, and rescue files - even when their computer's operating system is not responding. The Symantec Recovery Disk works on NTFS and FAT volumes.
Norton SystemWorks 2005 Premier also includes Norton Ghost 9.0, the newest version of Symantec's leading disk imaging software. Norton Ghost 9.0, enhanced with PowerQuest's Drive Image technology, allows users to create a backup image without restarting their computer or exiting Windows. Norton Ghost 9.0 also has an incremental backup and restore feature that simply updates drive images with changes once a complete image of the drive has been made, saving users time and storage space.
