Symantec releases pcAnywhere 10.0
New version of award winning software offers secure, faster remote access solution
Hong Kong -- March 15, 2001 - Symantec, a world leader in Internet security technology, has released pcAnywhere 10.0, the new and improved version of the company's award-winning remote access solution. The latest edition of pcAnywhere 10.0 incorporates multiple levels of security and optimises transfer speeds between corporate networks and remote workstations.
pcAnywhere also enables IT administrators to improve helpdesk productivity as well as access servers from a remote location, while equipping administrators with fast and easy access to any computer within the entity. The English edition of pcAnywhere 10.0 will be available by late March in Hong Kong, with the Chinese edition available in stores in early April.
"Remote access is an efficient tool for IT administrators, helpdesks and mobile executives, but without the appropriate security remote access also opens a potential back door for attacks on a corporate network," said Daniel Cheng, managing director of Hong Kong and China for Symantec. According to a recent Gartner Group report, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are increasingly becoming prime targets for Internet attacks and many will suffer a successful attack from now until 2003. pcAnywhere 10.0 addresses this important issue by providing newly added protections to distant users while maintaining high communication speeds and optimised remote access performance.
Additionally, Symantec has incorporated with version 10.0, the Remote Access Perimeter Scanner, a component that scans corporate networks to verify that all remote access hosts are configured securely. Users and administrators can rest easy knowing that their data, machines and attached networks are secured during remote sessions.
pcAnywhere 10.0 also includes Packager, a unique feature that allows administrators to create tailored installation packages that are specific to different networking environments. By choosing only the components that are needed, the installation footprint can be reduced while increasing the security.
To utilise remote sessions effectively, pcAnywhere's new Optimisation Wizard guides administrators by providing them with options to increase the speed of remote sessions. Additionally, transferring files with version 10.0 is easier with enhancements to both the file transfer user interface and Auto Transfer, a feature that automates the process of transferring files.
