Symantec offers more enterprise class security products in Hong Kong than ever before
Hong Kong -- March 29, 2001 - Following its acquisition of AXENT Technologies effective from January 1 2001, Internet security leader Symantec has begun marketing the AXENT line of security products in Hong Kong -- providing customers in Hong Kong easy access to the most effective enterprise security products and support.
Designed to offer protection from all types of security threats, the new range of products from Symantec include Enterprise Security Manager, for setting up networks with default security settings; NetRecon, for scanning multiple operating systems; Intruder Alert and Net Prowler, for continuous monitoring of user actions and managing network-wide response; Raptor Firewall, for securing the network's perimeter and easily integrating virtual private networking; and Webthority, for better control and management of access to Web servers and site content.
The company offers one of the broadest ranges of complementary security solutions and services, with 98 of the largest Fortune 100 companies using one or a combination of products from Symantec. Symantec's local team and expertise is expected to significantly expand the penetration and market share of these enterprise security products.
"The Internet and private networks are essential tools for all businesses. Standalone security products are no longer sufficient to prevent sophisticated intrusion and virus attacks," said Garry Sexton, Vice President of Asia Pacific for Symantec. "Enterprise customers are seeking best-of-breed security products that work well together regardless of the vendor, and are supported by integration services. This merger catapults Symantec to a market leadership position and allows us to deliver a complete enterprise security solution, and a full range of security services."
Market research firm IDC estimates that the US$1.5 billion worldwide content security market (which includes anti-virus and content scanning and filtering) is expected to grow at a 32 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) to US$4.0 billion by 2003. The US$150 million vulnerability assessment and intrusion detection market is expected to grow at a 48 percent CAGR to US$1.0 billion by 2003. The US$500 million firewall market is expected to grow at a 26 percent CAGR to US$2.0 billion by 2003.
Symantec finalised the acquisition of AXENT Technologies in a stock-for-stock transaction valued at approximately US$975 million.
Symantec's product offerings now include leading firewall security, virus protection, vulnerability assessment, intrusion prevention, Internet content and e-mail filtering and remote management technologies. The expected revenue stream for the new company will make it one of the largest Internet security companies in the industry.
