Symantec Ghost 7.0 available in Hong Kong with enhanced features for PC management

Hong Kong -- April 25, 2001 - Symantec, a world leader in Internet security technology, has announced the local availability of Symantec Ghost 7.0 Enterprise Edition, the software tool that allows administrators to remotely clone, deploy, configure, back-up, restore and distribute software and user-specific images to network and mobile PCs.

The newest offering from Symantec comes with enhanced PC deployment and management capabilities including Incremental Backup, which provides IT administrators with an easy way to restore a PC's operating system, applications and user data should a security breach occur. It eases PC management throughout a computer's lifecycle by eliminating the need for an IT administrator to visit workstations to perform routine maintenance or disaster recovery tasks.

"Symantec Ghost 7.0 Enterprise Edition enables companies to migrate to new operating systems such as Windows 2000 easily and quickly," said Daniel Cheng, managing director of China and Hong Kong, Symantec. "Ghost 7.0 can collect user files and desktop settings from network PCs before deploying a new Operating System. This functionality allows IT administrators to migrate their desktop PCs centrally, without losing user data or configuration settings. Symantec Ghost 7.0 is the only Windows 2000 Logo certified pc management and migration tool kit available."

Several new features have been added to Ghost 7.0 to help IT administrators manage their enterprise environments. For the migration of user data and settings from one PC to another, Ghost User Migration allows IT administrators to capture user files, directories, and desktop settings and easily copy them to a new PC.

Symantec Ghost 7.0 also includes 3Com Boot Services Software, which, through support for Intel's Wired for Management technology, introduces new systems to the network without having to physically visit them. IT administrators can now further automate the deployment of Ghost OS and Application Images as well as perform desktop disaster recovery.

To reduce the size of the overall footprint, the AutoInstall Client function within Ghost Console has been merged with the Ghost Client. Administrators are now able to manage all tasks such as the creation of software packages and changes using the Central Ghost Console.

Microsoft System Preparation Utility Integration is another new feature, providing support for Microsoft's System Preparation tool, which prepares a master computer for Ghost cloning. Combining Ghost with Microsoft's System Preparation tool reduces the number of images to be maintained by reducing hardware incompatibilities between images.

Symantec's Ghost 7.0 Enterprise Edition has earned both Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Logo Certification and Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Logo Certification. To earn these certifications, Ghost 7.0 Enterprise Edition met a comprehensive set of test criteria implemented by VeriTest, the authorised worldwide laboratory for testing both desktop and server applications for the "Certified for Windows" logo from Microsoft.
