Symantec announces Security Services in Hong Kong, addressing demand for outsourced network security services
Hong Kong -- June 13, 2001 - Symantec, a world leader in IT security, has announced Symantec Security Services, incorporating leading technology, global resources and extensive international security expertise that will enable Asian enterprises to outsource best-practice security measures to protect their corporate information. The service comprises of Implementation Services, Consulting Services, Education Services and Managed Security Services.
Research firm IDC predicts that the worldwide security services market will grow to more than US$17 billion in 2004, compared to an estimated US$5.5 billion in 1999.
"We believe this is a market set for rapid growth as companies face the need to implement and manage effective security measures," said John Holland, vice president of Symantec Security Services, Symantec.
A recent Strategic Research survey, MIS Market Trend, 2001 revealed that organisations in Greater China are becoming increasingly aware of security needs: just under 80 percent of MIS managers interviewed said they are either "concerned," "very concerned" or "extremely concerned" about the potential effects of virus attacks and hacking on their corporate performance and critical information assets.
"Many local companies have been faced with a shortage of personnel with security expertise, and many also lack the budget to hire such skilled workers," added Daniel Cheng, managing director of Hong Kong and PRC for Symantec. "As a result, companies have turned to outsourcing their security operations."
Xerox is one international company that has outsourced day-to-day protection of its computer network. "We've retained strategic control of Xerox's security but Symantec looks after the operational aspects from its Security Operations Centre in Epsom, England," said Scott Marvin, head of international security at Xerox. "Most importantly, we can leverage Symantec's knowledge and understanding of what's going on in the outside world in terms of security threats and latest technology."
Symantec Security Services provides effective security architecture and intrusion detection solutions, 24x7 monitoring and knowledge of the latest vulnerabilities, protecting customer network environments from security challenges.
Holland concluded, "Ultimately, security is about protecting an organisation's greatest asset - information. In doing so, it is the speed of the response to a security incident can mean the difference between a security incident and a disaster."
"Critical to ensuring a fast response is having effective security architecture and intrusion detection solutions, 24x7 monitoring and knowledge of the latest vulnerabilities. This is the nature of Symantec Security Services, it is an ongoing insurance that organisations are guarded and ready to be defended if under threat."
