Symantec targets Hong Kong enterprises with the launch of top line security firewall / VPN appliance
Hong Kong -- August 29 2001 - Symantec, a world leader in Internet security, today strengthens its commitment to the local market with the launch of its VelociRaptor firewall and virtual private network (VPN) appliance. VelociRaptor, the first full inspection application proxy firewall appliance available to enterprises in this region, empowers small to large businesses with increased firewall security, remote management and the simplicity of plug-and-protect installation.
A key part of Symantec's Enterprise Security, this latest offering is an integrated hardware and software firewall/VPN appliance that delivers the highest level of security available. To gain 100% control of information entering and leaving the network, VelociRaptor filters all data traffic, with full data inspection and integrates application level proxies, network circuit analysis and packet filtering into the gateway security architecture.
"According to the latest security survey by the Hong Kong Productivity Council, Internet hazards alone cost local small to medium sized enterprises HK$1.4 million a year," said Daniel Cheng, managing director of China and Hong Kong, Symantec. "This number looks to take a turn for the worse, as the number of cybercrimes reported is increasingly on the rise."
IT managers in the region have expressed a need for security solutions. The latest IDC survey on Internet and network security adoption and investment in the Asia/Pacific found that more than 56 percent of IT managers attributed their decision to strengthen online security measure to increased Internet use. The survey showed 39 percent of these managers reported that the rollout of their e-commerce initiatives spurred their investments in security.

Symantec's VelociRaptor appliance is available in three models: model 500, model 700 and model 1000. VelociRaptor model 500 is suitable for protecting networks of up to fifty nodes. VelociRaptor model 700 is designed for protecting networks of approximately 500 nodes with communication lines up to 45 Mbs. VelociRaptor model 1000 ships with an unlimited node license and Managed Firewall Appliance Service and is intended for securing high-speed networks with Internet connections up to fast Ethernet speed.

Pricing and Availability
Symantec's latest offering is priced to fit the security needs of businesses of all sizes. VelociRaptor model 500 is priced from HK$31,161. For larger businesses or branch offices, VelociRaptor model 700 is priced from HK$77,649, while VelociRaptor model 1000 is priced from HK$116,961.
The VelociRaptor 700 and VelociRaptor 1000 are available bundled with Symantec Security Managed Services, incorporating leading technology with the global resources and international security expertise to help monitor and maintain solid perimeter security.
