Symantec Earns Triple Honors on PC Magazine's Best of 2003 List
Top Utilities Designation Awarded to Three-Time Winner Norton Internet Security, Norton AntiVirus, and Symantec's PartitionMagic
CUPERTINO, Calif. -- 28 January, 2004 -- Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the
world leader in Internet security, today announced that Norton Internet
Security 2004, Norton AntiVirus 2004, and PartitionMagic 8.0 were named to
PC Magazine's prestigious Best of 2003 list. This win marks the third
consecutive year that Norton Internet Security has earned the exclusive
designation and follows Symantec's most recent round of PC Magazine
Editors' Choice Award wins, which included perfect five-star ratings for
Norton Internet Security and Norton AntiVirus.
"We are pleased to see of one the world's leading computing publications
continue to highlight the importance of protecting personal computers
through effective personal security and utilities software," said Matthew
Moynahan, vice president of Product Management, Client and Host Security,
at Symantec. "By singling out Norton Internet Security, Norton AntiVirus,
and PartitionMagic as three of the best products of the year, PC Magazine
is helping guide consumers toward the tools that can keep them safe from
today's viruses, security threats and identity theft, as well as ease
system administration."
PC Magazine's Best of 2003 represents the top products and services tested
and evaluated by PC Magazine Labs during the past 12 months. After
reviewing hundreds of offerings during the year, editors selected only the
best solutions to make up the publication's coveted annual shortlist of top
products. Norton Internet Security, Norton AntiVirus, and PartitionMagic
were three of only 13 products to be included in the category of Best
Utilities for 2003.
"With Norton Internet Security 2004, all your bases are covered," editors
wrote. "Norton Internet Security 2004 supplements Norton AntiVirus, the
best around, with the excellent Norton Personal Firewall, which now
includes ad blocking and privacy controls." Norton Internet Security 2004
is the easiest and most complete online security and privacy suite to
protect against viruses and other malicious code, hackers, spam, privacy
threats, and inappropriate Internet content. It includes Norton AntiVirus,
Norton Personal Firewall, Norton Intrusion Detection, Norton AntiSpam,
Norton Privacy Control, and Norton Parental Control.
"Not looking for a firewall? You still need to protect yourself from
viruses, and Norton AntiVirus 2004 is the best solution," editors
continued. Norton AntiVirus 2004 is the world's most trusted antivirus
solution for home computer users. It not only removes malicious code
automatically and protects email messages and instant messaging attachments
from viruses but also protects users against emerging non-virus threats
such as spyware and keystroke loggers. In addition, Norton AntiVirus
protects users of file-exchange services by scanning for viruses in
compressed file archives. Also included in Norton AntiVirus are worm- and
script-blocking technologies that detect new threats even before virus
definitions are created for them. Additionally, to ensure that virus
definitions are up-to-date, Norton AntiVirus automatically downloads them
whenever the user is online.
"With today's supersize hard drives, it's hard to imagine life without
PartitionMagic 8.0," editors wrote. "Using this application, you can easily
create, copy, resize, and modify drive partitions-without losing any data.
And it offers several tools you won't find in competing products." Symantec
acquired PartitionMagic through the company's recent acquisition of
PowerQuest Corp.
