MUMBAI -- April 18, 2001 - Symantec Corporation, the world leader in Internet security technology, today announced the opening of its second office in Bangalore, India. A fully operational management team, comprising of sales and technical support, will now be based in Bangalore under the leadership of Joy Ghosh, Country Manager, Symantec India.
Announcing this in Bangalore, Ross Wilson, Senior Regional Director, South East Asia, Symantec said "The expansion of Symantec's operations to Bangalore allows Symantec to be more accessible to our local customers and serve their needs better. Greater customer focus in this region will further expand Symantec's presence into new markets and strengthen our strategic relationships."
Symantec's revenue in India grew 350% in 2000 and is sustaining a 25% quarter-to-quarter growth in the current financial year. Over the last one year, Symantec expanded its strategic relationships in India by entering into partnerships with leading consultancies, including iLantus and system integrators, CMC.
Commenting on Symantec's performance in India over the year, Joy Ghosh, Country Manager India, Symantec, said, "Our encouraging growth in India can be attributed largely to our sales and support team and to our channel partners, both of whom have provided dedicated support in helping us develop the anti-virus and Internet security market. The market in South India has contributed to 40% of our revenues and we felt the need to have a direct presence in this region to support our increasing base of customers and our partners in this region. This is in line with our policy to invest ahead of the curve in markets that excite us with their potential. With a dedicated sales and support team based in Bangalore to address the need of the market in South India, we will deliver higher levels of customer service and see our revenues increase from this region"
The newly established Symantec office in Bangalore will work closely with VAR's and partners to help manage and co-ordinate all sales and marketing-related activities. This will ensure better service and accessibility for Symantec customers based in Bangalore. Symantec will also continue to invest in infrastructure and resources over the next year in keeping with its commitment to India.
