Symantec Announces New Version of Secure Romote Control
Solution
pcAnywhere 10.5 Provides Host Assessment Tool,
Rebootless Host and
Windows XP Logo Certification
Mumbai - November 22, 2001- Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), a world
leader in Internet security, today announced pcAnywhere 10.5 - the latest
version of Symantec's market leading, easy-to-use remote control solution.
pcAnywhere 10.5 will include a new security assessment tool, improved
installation functionality for IT administrators and Windows XP Logo Certification.
pcAnywhere 10.5 will enable IT administrators to improve helpdesk productivity
and access servers from a remote location, while also providing users
with fast, easy access to any PC.
"As the need to save valuable time and IT resources continues to
rise, IT administrators and mobile workers need solutions that offer secure
access to remote machines," said Joy Ghosh, country manager Symantec
India. "pcAnywhere 10.5 will offer customers the ease-of-use and
confidence needed to remotely connect to another machine located anywhere
in the world."
By providing a rebootless host, pcAnywhere 10.5 will offer IT administrators
the ability to install pcAnywhere without the need to reboot a computer.
The rebootless host is a self-contained package that can be quickly deployed
and installed to resolve a problem. This is critical for IT administrators
working on server machines that are required to remain running constantly.
The new assessment tool offered in pcAnywhere 10.5 allows users to diagnose
their current pcAnywhere Host configuration and take advantage of any
additional security features that are available. In order to provide customers
with a complete record of who is trying to connect to their computer,
and how frequently, pcAnywhere 10.5 will log port scans on the pcAnywhere
port, as well as failed login attempts.
The latest version of pcAnywhere will build on the advanced security features
offered in pcAnywhere 10.0 which includes ten different authentication
methods, detection of remote access vulnerabilities on a network, three
levels of encryption, serialization to prevent unauthorized access and
the ability to only accept connections from specified TCP/IP addresses
and subnets.
A favorite of IT departments for its reliability and secure access features,
pcAnywhere provides administrators and end-users customizable, secure,
remote control for helpdesk support, server support and for remote access
to machines for day-extenders and telecommuters. pcAnywhere has been successfully
deployed on remote machines for more than 15 years and has won more than
75 industry awards.
