Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.0
Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.0 incorporates a proven systems and policy management technology from Intel. This technology allows systems administrators to easily and efficiently protect, control and monitor all machines in a domain, including both Windows NT and NetWare servers, from a single centralised console. It is a highly scalable systems and policy management tool that allows IT administrators to proactively address threats that impact cost, credibility and uptime.
Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.0 supports both local network and remote configurations, thereby giving administrators the flexibility to select the most appropriate anti-virus software for their mixed desktop/mobile client environments. With Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.0, corporations receive multi-tier protection for Windows 9x, Windows NT/2000 workstation and server, NetWare and Windows 3.x/DOS.
Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.0 also includes a new corporate version of the highly successful 'Scan and Deliver' feature that provides customers with the most complete and accurate anti-virus protection cycle available. The new version is an automatic, global response process for submitting suspected or infected files and receiving new virus repair definitions over e-mail. When a new virus sample is discovered at a client, the system can automatically package and forward the sample to the Quarantine Server from where it can be submitted directly to Symantec AntiVirus Research Centre (SARC).
Once SARC receives the sample, it is automatically passed to the new Symantec AntiVirus Research Automation (SARA) technology which can in turn, automatically create a cure and transmit the resulting fix back to the reporting corporation. The cure is also made available to other service subscribers, which significantly minimises the possibility of widespread infection. This automation technology will greatly reduce the amount of time to create a cure for a new virus, providing much relief to the IT administrator from today's fast moving threats. The new Scan and Deliver function is based on technology co-developed with IBM.
The product is the first anti-virus product to deliver highly automated and hands-free virus protection. To minimise IT costs in the face of unknown virus threats, Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.0 relies on a unique technology called NAVEX. With this technology, Norton AntiVirus can be updated to include protection from new and unknown viruses without having to redeploy the software.
LiveUpdate provides a simple two-click process for end-use clients or IT administrators to get the most current virus definitions from the Symantec web site on a global 24x7 basis. LiveUpdate Admin enables IT managers to download a complete set of the most current virus definitions for the entire domain and for any mix of platform types; these definitions, in turn, are used to automatically update end users personal virus definitions.
Symantec System Center
Symantec System Center is a key component of the Norton AntiVirus Enterprise Solution that enables centralised management of Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.0 across workstations and servers alike. The solution uses a state-of-the-art, patented technology developed by Symantec, IBM, and Intel to deliver virus protection that keeps systems running at peak performance.
Symantec System Center enables centralised deployment of Symantec's intelligent solutions and updates across multiple Windows NT and NetWare networks. The Symantec System Center provides complete system management. IT administrators can customise alerts / escalations and automate responses to specific actions for individual users, server groups and across multiple platforms.
It also enables real-time communications with Windows 95/98/NT/2000 clients and Windows NT and NetWare servers, enabling administrators to respond quickly to potential threats.
Built on award-winning technology from Symantec and Intel, administrators can use Symantec System Center to automatically update virus definitions and the administrator can configure the level of automation. For example, when a client workstation detects a possible virus, that event can trigger Norton AntiVirus to automatically attempt a repair. If the repair is unsuccessful an event can be triggered to send the infected file to a quarantined area and to send an alert to the administrator. Because administrators are able to receive notification in several ways, including paging, Internet E-mail (SMTP), client message dialogue, SNMP trap and network broadcast alerts, the console does not require a full-time operator. As a result, administrators are able to maintain the safety and security of their systems, as well as their credibility, in the event a new or unknown virus attacks their network.
Pricing and availability
The Norton AntiVirus Enterprise Solution 4.0 is available now at an estimated retail price of Rs. 4,000 (for 10-24 licenses), which includes the license cost plus one year's upgrade insurance.
