Jaring and Symantec Join Hands to Offer Anti Virus Solutions to the customers
Jaring customers will be protected against viruses with Symantec's AntiVirus Scan Engine
KUALA LUMPUR -- 26 November, 2002 - Symantec Corp, the world leader in Internet security technology, today announced a strategic partnership with Jaring, Malaysia's first and main gateway to Internet access, to offer email virus scanning services to its customers.
As a result of the partnership, from September 2002 onwards Jaring's customers are able to protect their emails from virus infections using Symantec's AntiVirus Scan Engine. Based on a two-year subscription, the scope of the partnership covers platinum support (7x24x365), product updates, and virus definition updates. The annual subscription fee for the service for personal users and corporate users will be RM 21.99 and RM 29.99 respectively.
"Service providers and enterprise networks require scalable, high-performing security products which Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine delivers by using Symantec's trusted and award-winning antivirus technology," said Ross Wilson, Senior Regional Director, SEA, Symantec. "The prolific increase in Internet threats and the damage caused has greatly increased the learning curve for Internet security. Our partnership with Jaring will create new synergies that will provide Jaring's 500,000 customers a clean and safe pipeline to the Internet."
According to a report from eMarketer, the number of Internet users in Malaysia is expected to reach 6 million in 2005 from the current approximately 2 million Internet subscribers.
"The number of Internet users in Malaysia has grown exponentially. As a trusted ISP we fully understand the impact and threats that the lack of Internet security can have on businesses. Our partnership with Symantec is reflective of our on-going commitment to provide our customers with a safe and virus free environment for conducting business," said Dr. Mohamed Bin Awang Lah, chief executive officer of Jaring.
"In Malaysia, the government has made conscious efforts to introduce initiatives to educate and create awareness for Internet security. Our partnership with Jaring will boost these initiatives even further," said Gun Suk Ling, Country Manager Malaysia and Indonesia, Symantec.
Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine provides fast, scalable, and reliable virus protection for traffic served through, or stored on, network infrastructure devices. Employing award-winning Symantec antivirus technologies optimised for high performance and rapid deployment, the solution is easily integrated into server software applications and networking systems through support for the ICAP protocol or the native API. Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine is supported by five Symantec Security Response Centres across the globe, providing non-stop 24-hour virus research and monitoring.
