Search Help

The Symantec Search Page offers a search over the entire Symantec website. Users may find information on Products, Viruses, Employment at Symantec and Technical Support.

Searching the Symantec website involves three simple steps:

  1. The search engine allows you to begin your search by typing a simple word, such as:
    • pcAnywhere. Or
    • a few words, such as: Virus Definitions or Financial news. Or
    • a phrase, such as: "Find Symantec Corporate Headquarters"
  2. Now, use the checkboxes to choose a Category topic. Any checked Category will direct the Symantec Search Engine to search that specific category. You may check any number of categories. If you aren't sure which category you want to search, leave them all blank.
  3. Choose one or more geographical regions to search. (Leave blank to search all regions)

Advanced searching ideas:

  • You may use a plus (+) sign in front of all of the search terms as an AND to retrieve documents containing ALL words. For example: +Internet +Security.
  • To search for multiple phrases, use double quotation marks separated by commas. For example: "purchase product", "MAC", "Norton System Works" searches for all three phrases simultaneously.

Different vendors employ different names for viruses. If you are experiencing difficulty locating information, please try one of the following suggestions:

  • To search for a phrase, enclose the words in quotes. ( e.g. "Internet Security")
  • Try an alias. Many threats have alternate names or aliases.
  • Search for specific text related to the threat, other than the threat's name. Some possibilites are: name of a file attachment associated with the threat, message generated by the threat that appears on your screen after infection occurs, the Subject field of a suspected email containing a virus, the name of a file copied to or altered on your computer.
  • Conduct the search using the first part of the threat name. For example, to find information about VBS.Loveletter.X, try searching for the family name: "Loveletter", or even the type "VBS"
  • Specify the type of threat: virus, worm, trojan horse, macro
