Symantec Appoints Garry Sexton, vice president Asia Pacific, to strategic global position in US Headquarters

Symantec US VP of Public Sector Sales to Replace Sexton

SINGAPORE -- 14 April, 2003 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced the appointment of Garry Sexton to a new global position focused on solution and product marketing, based in the United States. Vince Steckler, currently vice president in charge of public sector sales in North America, has been tapped to replace Mr. Sexton and will report directly to Dieter Giesbrecht, senior vice president, worldwide sales and services.

As vice president, solution and product marketing, Mr. Sexton will report directly to Don Frischmann, senior vice president, communications and brand management and acting chief marketing officer, a newly created position. In this new role, Mr Sexton will be responsible for the successful marketing launch of all Symantec products and services worldwide. He will work closely with the Symantec development teams to provide market requirements information and develop go-to-market strategies over the life of our products and solutions.

Mr Sexton joined Symantec Australia in 1990 and has held the position of vice president, Asia Pacific, since October 1996. Mr Sexton has grown the Asia Pacific business significantly during this time, ensuring Symantec has a clear leadership position in the region.

Mr. Steckler will take over responsibility for all sales, service and marketing functions throughout the Asia-Pacific region. With more than 20 years of experience in software development, systems analysis, security and safety analysis, and sales management in the government software industry, Mr. Steckler has been responsible for the overall management of education and government sales at the federal, state and local levels at Symantec. Since joining Symantec in September 2000, Mr. Steckler has been instrumental in building Symantec's public sector sales into one of the fastest growing segments within the enterprise security business. Mr. Steckler will be responsible for Symantec sales operations in offices throughout the region, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Mumbai and Bangalore.

"His extensive experience in enterprise sales will be a tremendous complement to the thriving business Garry has established in the region."

Before joining Symantec, Mr. Steckler spent 20 years at Logicon Inc., one of the largest software integrators in the United States. Most recently the vice president of enterprise solutions at Logicon, he successfully started and managed their software resale business unit, building it into a successful $150 million a year business, making the unit the largest reseller of enterprise software in the public sector.
