Symantec Delivers Accelerated Problem Resolution with pcAnywhere 11.0

Enhanced Remote Control, File Transfer and Remote Management Tools Save IT Administrators Valuable Time

SINGAPORE -- 24 June, 2003 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced pcAnywhere 11.0, the world's leading remote control solution. pcAnywhere 11.0 extends beyond remote control by providing IT administrators integrated Remote Management tools and enhanced file transfer to further accelerate helpdesk and server support problem resolution.

For both the enterprise helpdesk and the small business IT department, pcAnywhere 11.0 saves companies money and time by enabling administrators to connect to machines all over the world or even in their own office without leaving their desk. Added connection features enhance ease-of-use by allowing administrators to begin remote sessions in fewer steps, record connection histories and organize the connection items in folders or in a central location.

"For years, pcAnywhere has focused on the changing needs of network administrators and information technology personnel by providing advanced security and comprehensive remote management tools," said Ross Wilson, Senior Regional Director, SEA, Symantec. "Symantec's latest version of pcAnywhere continues to reduce total cost of ownership for customers and extends the customizable solution set beyond basic remote control while maintaining the same primary focus - accelerating helpdesk and server support problem resolution."

Symantec's pcAnywhere 11.0 offers a complete toolset designed to drastically reduce the resolution time for helpdesk and server support with a three-fold solution: remote control, remote management and file transfer capabilities. Remote Management tools are run on the helpdesk machine but affect the connected host computer. The task manager tool, for example, allows users to remotely manipulate applications and processes on a host computer. Command Prompt provides a command line interface for DOS commands on the host. Remote Regedit allows complete manipulation of the host machine's registry. Enhanced file transfer functionality now allows files to be sent in the background while queuing additional files to be sent.

pcAnywhere 11.0 allows customers to save valuable time with new tools that simplify the task of transferring files. Users can transfer files in the background and even queue up file transfers to send to multiple machines.

New Command Queue files can combine file transfers with DOS commands to generate batch files that accomplish specific tasks such as software updates.

With a continuing commitment to security, pcAnywhere 11.0 includes additional protection to enhance the already unmatched security found in pcAnywhere. IT administrators will find value in the ability to enforce security policies and restrict access leveraging Windows policy management.

Additionally, pcAnywhere integrates with RSA's SecurID to provide a two-factor authentication method to ensure only authorized users can connect to a pcAnywhere host.

pcAnywhere 11.0 includes the Symantec Packager which provides administrators with the ability to create a customized installation where they can choose which components to install and set application defaults. Once the customized install is created, it can be sent to users with the new package deployment tool.
