In the 1960s a group of Australian parents with Autistic children banded together for mutual support. Today their organization is Autism Queensland, a 250-employee nonprofit organisation serving more than 3,000 people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at two schools; several respite homes, and other facilities. Autism Queensland personnel also travel to remote areas throughout the State.
