The flood gates opened for the Swedish Greater Göteborg Fire and Rescue Services (Räddningstjänsten Göteborg). Unfortunately it was in the wrong direction. The inadvertent operation of these gates led to two meters of river water pouring into the organization’s data center, with the potentially catastrophic loss of critical emergency services data. But unexpected benefit came out of the crisis. The Fire and Rescue Services subsequently deployed Veritas NetBackup 6.5 software from Symantec to prevent this and other types of disaster from impacting emergency services data in the future. This high-performance, reliable, and easy-to-use data protection strategy helps ensure emergency services data is secure―and indirectly helps save lives. Elsewhere, an Altiris client management solution from Symantec is also automating the management of up to 1,000 clients and servers across six Swedish municipalities.
