embedded file virus

The virus attaches itself parasitically to a host data file with embedded executable content. An embedded executable file is one composed of almost non-executable data but that may also contain embedded executable content in the form of scripts or macros. They should not be confused with interpreted executables, which are composed almost exclusively of executable instructions that must be interpreted by another program. These types of viruses are commonly referred to as macro viruses.
