IP (Internet Protocol)
The method or protocol by which data is sent from one computer to another on the Internet. Each computer (known as a host) on the Internet has at least one address that uniquely identifies it to all other computers on the Internet.
A data-oriented protocol that is used for communicating data across a packet-switched internetwork. It is a network layer protocol and is encapsulated in a data link layer protocol. As a lower layer protocol, IP provides a unique global address scheme among computers.
