service

A program, routine, or process that performs a specific system function to support other programs, particularly at a low (close to the hardware) level. The agent is an example of a service.

A program on a Windows server system that runs in the background and performs some task (for example, starting other programs when they are needed). Services are generally referred to as daemons on UNIX systems.

A PureDisk software component. The possible services are as follows: content router, metabase engine, metabase server, storage pool authority, and NetBackup export engine.

A network port, a UDP port, an IP protocol type, or an ICMP type.
