Symantec Enterprise Security Manager - Symantec™ Enterprise Security Manager – 10.0 Update for Remote upgrade of Windows Agent

September 23, 2011

Description

Symantec™ Enterprise Security Manager – 10.0 Update for Remote upgrade of Windows agent provides information about the fix for the issue observed when you perform an upgrade of an ESM 6.5.3 SP2 Windows agent to ESM 10.0 agent using remote upgrade.

The agent has been upgraded from version 6.5.3 installed using the Java Installer to version 6.5.3 SP2 using  MSI installer. The stale Java uninstaller entries for version 6.5.3 are retained in the agent registry. The ESM 10.0 installer finds these entries and tries to uninstall the version 6.5.3, but is not able to do so, since the uninstaller binary for version 6.5.3 is not present.

This fix applies to customers who are upgrading an ESM 6.5.3 SP2 Windows agent to ESM 10.0 Windows agent.

Symantec Response

Symantec has released a Remote Upgrade package to fix the issue. The fix now checks if the uninstaller is available before trying to execute it, and clears all the previous entries from the agent registry.

Live Update Package

Perform the following steps to implement the remote upgrade package for ESM 10.0 Windows agents:

  1. Download the zip file.
  2. Extract the zip file to a suitable location.
  3. From the ESM console, perform a Live update to the ESM manager.
  4. Perform a remote upgrade on the agents registered with the ESM manager.
