Description

The Microsoft Message Queuing service is prone to a local privilege-escalation vulnerability because it fails to adequately handle user-supplied input. An attacker can exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM-level privileges. Successfully exploiting this issue will result in the complete compromise of affected computers. Failed exploits will cause a denial of service.

Recommendations

Permit local access for trusted individuals only. Where possible, use restricted environments and restricted shells.

To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker requires local access to an affected computer. Grant local access for trusted and accountable users only.

Implement multiple redundant layers of security.

Various memory-protection schemes (such as nonexecutable and randomly mapped memory segments) may hinder an attacker's ability to exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code.
