Description

Microsoft Windows is prone to a spoofing vulnerability that affects the ISATAP component. An attacker can exploit this issue to spoof IPv6 addresses. This may allow the attacker to bypass filtering devices that rely on the source IPv6 addresses; information disclosure and other attacks may also be possible. The issue affects Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008.

Recommendations

Deploy network intrusion detection systems to monitor network traffic for malicious activity.

Deploy NIDS to monitor network traffic for signs of suspicious or anomalous traffic.

Do not accept communications that originate from unknown or untrusted sources.

Restrict access to only trusted computers or devices. Block traffic that originates from unlikely or impossible source addresses.
